HVAC

We are agent of GECS to help tier 1 HVAC manufacturers to sell to NA OEMs.

1.      General introduction of GECS

a)       Who is GECSllc?

GECS was formed by Alfred Gunther in October, 2009, as a full service provider of sales and engineering support for suppliers of  automotive power-train cooling components to North American Automotive OEM’s. GECS currently manages approximately $5M per year in automotive business for 3 suppliers. In addition to technical sales support, GECS also offers engineering consulting and employee training services. We have a long-term consulting contract with 1 automotive supplier, and have provided training for 2 others.

b)       Why work with GECS?

i.        Alfred Gunther is a graduate engineer with more than 35 years of experience in this field. He has worked at Ford and GM as a directly employed engineer, and currently has a contract with Chrysler for engineering support for some future programs with their Advanced Engine Systems Group. Al has also been a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers for many years, and participates on the Cooling Systems Standards Committee. Al gave the keynote address at this year’s SAE Congress for the Thermal Components presentations on April 18, 2013.

ii.        Alfred Gunther has over 900 connections in Linkedin and his profile is in the top 1% of all profiles viewed in Linkedin.

iii.       To better support potential suppliers in China, Al signed a contract with Mr. Carl Li in 2013.  Mr. Li has a great deal of experience working in the automotive supply base and speaks English and Chinese fluently.  He is certified six sigma black belt and certified purchasing manager, has MBA and master of mechanical engineering degrees. He worked in supply chain and new product development functions around 20 years including HP, Hitachi, Ingersoll Rand and leading automotive Rotating Electric parts company WAI etc

iv.         We now work together as a team to support these customers.

c)        How does this arrangement work?

i.          Al provides all local sales and technical support for the automotive OEM’s in Detroit. This includes working with the various Purchasing departments, making engineering technical presentations, supporting design work, supporting production launches and monitoring warranty on an on-going basis.

ii.         Carl Li provides support for the China suppliers. He will facilitate any systems training, if necessary, and help with communications with Al, including Chinese-English translation.

d)        Who are our potential customers?

i.          GM- Most staff functions are located in Warren, MI. GM currently has the capacity to build about 3M vehicles per year in North America

ii.          Ford- Located in Dearborn, MI, Ford’s annual volume is about 2.5M vehicles per year.

iii.         Chrysler- Recently purchased by Fiat, Chrysler’s engineering and purchasing departments are located in Auburn Hills, MI. Chrysler currently sells about 1.5M vehicles per year.

iv.           All three locations are within 50 km of each other.

1.        GM Vehicle Engineering Center

2.        Ford Research and Engineering

3.        Chrysler Technical Center

e)       How are hose products purchased?

i.       Most of these OEM’s purchase hoses as part of an Under-hood/Under-body plumbing commodity. This commodity includes:

ii.            Coolant Hoses

iii.            Coolant Tanks and Caps

iv.            Charge Air Cooling Hoses

v.              Engine Oil Hoses

vi.            Automatic Transmission Oil Hoses

vii.            Air Conditioning Hoses

f)         What qualifications does a new supplier need?

i.              You need to have a supplier code. Since all of the Detroit OEM’s is now global, if you have supplied GM, Ford, Chrysler or Fiat anywhere in the world, you have a supplier code. Coming in as a new supplier is difficult, but not impossible.

ii.              You need to have ISO9001 and ISO/TS16949 certification. This is a must.

iii.             You need a subscription to Covisint. (easy to register)

iv.              You need native Unigraphics and IDEAS CAD software. (we can use a third party if you don’t have it)

 v.              You need a local Detroit representative.

g)       Suppose we can not obtain automotive OEM business, what can we do?

 i.             OEM Service- Chrysler is aggressively pursuing non-Tier1 companies for their OEM service (Mopar)

ii.            Tier 2 Automotive- Most Tier 1 companies make their own hose, but there may be times when it is better for them to purchase hose from a Tier 2

iii.            Heavy Truck and Off-Highway- The volumes for this segment are quite a bit lower than automotive, but the prices are higher. The problem is that these companies are not concentrated in any one area, so there are significant travel costs involved.

h)       How do we communicate with GECS?

i.         Skype- This is a very useful, economical communication tool, but requires a lot of internet band-with. Sometimes this can become a problem when sharing data with many people on-line and slow internet speeds.

ii.        Teleconference/Web-sharing-This is the preferred communication tool. I have an account with telephone numbers in Turkey that you can use.

i)         How do we communicate with our customers?

i.         All the North American OEM’s, and many large suppliers use Covisint as a communication tool. There is a wide range of information available here, and all logistic, purchasing and quality communications typically take place through Covisint. Various languages are available, but English is the primary language, so it will be advantageous for you to have 2-3 people in your organization with good English language skills who are trained to use it. All production orders will be communicated using EDI.

j)         What is our next step?

i. If you think that a relationship with GECS would be a benefit to your company, we will install a  contract. Below are a few key points:

ii. Exclusivity- Although GECS has other clients, we will only work with one company for any given product.

iii. Territory- We only claim the US states of Michigan, Ohio and the Canadian province of Ontario as sales territories. You are free to e working in the automotive supply base and speaks English and Chinese fluently.  He is certified six sigma black belt and certified purchasing manager, has MBA and master of mechanical engineering degrees. He worked in supply chain and new product development functions around 20 years including HP, Hitachi, Ingersoll Rand and leading automotive Rotating Electric parts company WAI .

iv. Compensation- We offer a variety of compensation plans, including 100% commission.
